Day 14, Privileged.

Today, Prof leaves it to the students to take charge of the class. Five out of eleven of us presented on fatwa and shared their views and academic critics. The other six, including myself will be presenting tomorrow before the two weeks of class ends.

For someone who has difficulties expressing myself, even worse in English, I had all the reason to be nervous and panic. But Alhamdulillah, God gave me strength and I did what I could to prepare the best presentation within my capabilities. While preparing the slides and figuring how best to organize the presentation, I came to know a lot about our fatwa and Singapore.

For example, I recalled how privileged we are to be given AMLA, and with the three institutions, Muis, Syariah Court and Romm while the rest of the other faith groups do not, as shared by our beloved Mufti. How wonderful that we are able to practice our worship without much of a hassle, having at least 70 mosques in such a small island. As compared to the states which are hundredfold times larger, probably they have about 200 mosques that usually based on various understanding of Islam.

Nevertheless, I will have to also agree with those who view that having all these is not enough. We will still have to strive for more, establishing God’s command for Muslims. More rights to practice the religion, not only in worship, but economically and others as well. But this is supposed to be done in a manner that would not hurt the harmony of our current diverse community, and that is not easy.

We will have to just keep striving for His cause, and make prayers for one another. By His will, we will get there insyaAllah.
