Tonight, our WhatsApp group chat is flooded with discussions on the hazardous
haze affecting Singapore from the burning of forest by our neighboring country
in order to clear the land and make space for new crops, ignoring all the
pollution caused. How selfish can they get?
One of the chat groups were hoping that this thick haze can get them a
day off while the other group are busy discussing how to keep safe from the
polluted air. Another group, my colleagues from mosques around Singapore, discussed
if they should do prayers and supplication asking God for rain and other requests
to safe keep the country.
But alhamdulillah we are here, at the other end of this world, blessed
by the clean and fresh air, except for the uncertain weather which may rain heavily
all of the sudden. How fortunate one can get in one part of the world and how
unfortunate those on the other can get. But surely, both are tests sent by the
Almighty. Patience is required for those who are given calamity, while being
grateful as for those who are given goodness and fortune. That is how wonderful
it is to become a Muslim, as mentioned by the prophet (pbuh).
May Allah protect our family and friends back home. InsyaAllah. Amin.
